Pat returned to Charlotte to practice law in 1972 and served for eight years in Mecklenburg county as a District Court Judge. He is a member of Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, as well as the Mecklenburg County Bar and the North Carolina Bar Association.

Pat's practice includes both criminal defense and civil litigation, with an emphasis on personal injury matters.
