Labor and Employment

Our attorneys have many years of experience in representing both management and employees in a wide range of employment related situations. We are regularly involved in the negotiation and enforcement of employment contracts and severance agreements. We often represent highly placed business officers and managers in developing and analyzing deferred compensation agreements, "top hat" plans, stock options and other benefits. We regularly represent parties involved in disputes involving non_compete agreements, non-solicitation agreements and the protection of trade secrets.

We have litigated, on behalf of both employers and employees, complex employment disputes in state and federal courts and on appeal, in cases arising under a wide range of federal and state laws regulating the employment relationship. These disputes frequently involve claims of race, sex, age or disability discrimination, harassment, retaliation and unpaid wages.

We have experienced mediators who are certified by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission who are regularly asked by other lawyers and judges to mediate employment disputes. We have found that this experience makes us more effective in negotiating and resolving disputes on behalf of our own clients.

We also represent clients on issues involving ERISA retirement, disability, severance and health benefit claims, and we regularly represent our clients in federal court litigation where we are unable to resolve the claim without short of filing suit.
