Kenneth F. Essex grew up in Winston-Salem and received his undergraduate degree in History from Davidson College. After serving as an Army officer in Vietnam, Ken returned to North Carolina and earned his law degree from UNC. He has practiced law in Charlotte for more than thirty-five years and has been active in numerous professional and civic organizations, including service as a member of the Board of Managers of the Dowd YMCA, a member of the Board of Directors of the Mecklenburg County Literacy Council a member of the Board of Directors of Friendship Trays, a member of the Executive Committee of the Mecklenburg Country Bar, the Chair of the Bar's Nominating Committee, and the Chair of the Bar's Legal Services for the Elderly Committee.

Most recently, Ken has been appointed by the Mayor of Davidson, NC to serve a second term as a part of the five-member Board of Directors of MI-Connection, which is the publicly owned and operated cable and internet company serving the towns of Mooresville, Davidson, and Cornelius in Mecklenburg and Iredell Counties in North Carolina.

Ken has lectured on a number of business and estate planning topics, and his law practice is concentrated in the areas of Formation and Representation of Business Entities, Mergers and Acquisitions, Estate Planning and Probate, and Commercial Real Estate.

During the last several years, sailing and kayaking adventures have taken Ken and his wife, Faye, to the Bahamas, the islands of Guadaloupe and Dominica, the Kingdom of Tonga, the Icy Straits of Alaska, the San Juan Islands, the Virgin Islands, the Baja, and the Johnston Straits of British Columbia.

Ken and his wife, Faye, share the pleasure of  five children.
