Channing O. Richards was one of our founding partners.  He has retired from the firm and no longer practices law.

Mr. Richards was born in Washington, D.C. on August 9 1941, and has lived in Charlotte since 1944. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1963, with B.A. degree in English and received his law degree from Duke University in 1966.

Following graduation from law school, Chan served on active duty for three years in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Navy. Upon his discharge from active duty in 1969, he returned to Charlotte and practiced law continuously in Charlotte for over 40 years. His area of practice was Domestic Relations, with a focus on equitable distribution.

Chan is retired from the United States Navy Reserve, Judge Advocate General's Corps, with the rank of Commander. He is a member of the Mecklenburg County Bar and a past Chairman of the Bar's Grievance and Ethics Committee. He also was a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina State Bar, the American Bar Association, and the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers.

Chan and his wife, Sallye, live on Bald Head Island, North Carolina, and they commute regularly back to Charlotte to enjoy spending time with their two young grandchildren.
